Message from the Potentate

September 10, 2020

Dear Ill. Sirs and Nobles,

The last Potentate Message was published in May. Since that time there was very little activity conducted by our nobles due to COVID 19 restrictions.

I would like to thank everyone for their support during these challenging times. I am glad to report that no one in our fraternal family has contacted COVID 19. This is good news that we are all living in a safe environment and following social distancing and the guidelines for the Provincial Health Ministry.

In the month of August, I had the opportunity to attend two outdoor performances conducted by our Drum and Bugle Corps. at Lake Shore and North Shore Hospice. The residences and staff were very happy and grateful to the members for their time to provide live music with songs that they would all remember.

I hope that all the clubs and units have applied for the Government Gaming Grant. The window opportunity is from 01 August 2020 to 30 November 2020. These applications are vital to our efforts to assist the children in our care. The funds obtained through this grant assists our Child Services Society to provide transportation and equipment to our children.

Today fundraising programs are changing with the times and we need new ideas and marketing tools to attract the public to support our cause. If you have any new ideas for fundraising please bring them forward.

There are plans and sets of instructions that are being prepared and will be coming out shortly for Zoom Meetings so that our members will be able to conduct clubs or units business.

It appears that Gizeh Shriners of BC & Yukon and I have been victims of internet fraud. I would like to advise you that our office or members of the Divan would never ask of members to purchase gift cards as payment for our cause. In the future, please beware of these types of phishing scams. When in doubt please call our office or a Divan member for clarification.

I hope that everyone had a great summer to relax, reflect and support each other during these challenging times.

Be Kind, Be Calm and Be Safe.

Yours in the faith

Wally Lee
